The nurse provides monitoring of medication, side effects and coordination of medical services as required by the Ohio Department of Mental Health. Position requires daytime and evening (2 nights until 8:30PM per/wk) availability.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to provide appropriate nursing care to clients with mental illness including understanding their clinical needs, symptoms and behaviors as well as the principles of growth and development over the lifespan. Is able to assess data about each consumer’s status and interpret the information needed to identify each individual’s requirements in relation to his/her age-specific needs and provide care that is appropriate.
Administer injections, prepare drug samples, give medications, call meds to pharmacies, and provide other nursing services to clients as necessary.
Provide direct care service to clients and case management services as needed
Coordinate and maintain programs in Medical Department, i.e., lab results, prescriptions as needed, verification of dosage of medication prior to release to consumers.
On a regular basis, conduct medical education sessions on a variety of topics, i.e., overview of mental illness, diet, healthy lifestyle, etc.
Review schedules and ensure that charts and medications are set up for physician as needed.
Serve as liaison between physician and other caregivers in order to process information needed to provide appropriate care for clients.
Ensure client confidentiality according to federal guidelines and obtain written release of information before sharing with outside agencies.
Maintain all requirements for licensure and certification and provide documentation of licensure and renewals to Human Resources Coordinator. Adheres to scope of practice.
Follows agency policy and procedure and maintains compliance with accreditation bodies – CARF and OMHAS. Acts in an ethical manner within best practice methods established by the State of Ohio Board of Nursing.
Operates as a team member of the larger agency nursing team and assists outpatient nursing staff and psychiatric staff.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
LPN required and graduation from an accredited program.
Experience in the nursing field required; experience in the mental health field preferred.
Valid driver’s license.
Subject to BCI background check, pre-employment drug screen, and reference checks.
